Tigers Prepare for 2017-18 Season

The U18 AAA Tigers have been hard at work as training camp enters its final week. On the heels of off ice training at Red Rock Canyon, Garden of the Gods and a Memorial Park Spartan Run the team has found an early bond and work ethic they look to turn to success on the ice as the season opens in just 10 days. Tigers returner Hunter Pappas likes what camp represents “I have really enjoyed being with the guys and seeing how everyone reacts to being pushed and how everyone keeps pushing to get better.” “The morning runs were fun and solid workouts and just getting on the ice has been a good time!” added defenseman Max Van Lancker.

After just 10 days in town the team played an intra-squad game Sunday combining with its U16 teammates to get into the swing of some game action. The excitement of competition was evident in the building and both groups played well. The game produced some quality plays as well as identifying some great learning points in each zone for everyone involved.

The Tigers have a busy September schedule playing 10 games over the final three weeks of the month and look to get off to a great start for the 2017-18 season. Coach Holmstrom feels the team is off to a good start, “Our on-ice practices have been very good so far, I’m happy with the effort and attention to detail the men are bringing to the rink. We have pushed fairly hard on our conditioning but at the same time exposed the guys to the best the Springs has to offer in the outdoors. Camp has been a productive fun but we will turn our focus to our September schedule later in the week.”

The team will host the West Coast Renegades September 8-10 in a three-game set followed by a Friday prime time game with Fountain Valley School on September15th. The team will travel to Blaine, MN later in the month for the opening weekend of NAPHL action. “We are eager to get the season started and even more excited to see the crop of new players that will be playing in the NAPHL this season. NAHL Central Scouting will be in full force at the opening event, so hopefully everyone can take advantage of the opportunity and make a good first impression,” said NAPHL Director Tony Zasowski.
