David played two seasons with the CSAHA Pikes Peak Miners 2013-2015 and has now committed to UAH.
UAH is coached by former CSAHA Hockey Director and Pikes Peak Miners U18 Head Coach Mike Corbett.
Ladder of Development: Northeast Generals goalie David Fessenden spent two years playing in the NAPHL prior to his time in the NAHL and subsequent NCAA Division I commitment.
The Northeast Generals, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are excited to announce that goaltender and NAPHL graduate David Fessenden has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alabama-Huntsville for the 2019-20 season.
The Alabama-Huntsville Chargers play in the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association) and have helped countless players move on to professional hockey including NHL’ers Jared Ross and Cam Talbot.
Fessenden, 20, will begin his third year in the NAHL with the Generals in less than one month. The 6’6/220 lbs. native of Parker, Colorado has been outstanding both on and off the ice since being acquired as a free agent in October of 2016.
Fessenden played a major role in the Generals turnaround this past season, appearing in 35 games during the regular season and posting a 3.18 goals against average and a save percentage of .912. He also started all five games in the Generals playoff series against the #1 Philadelphia Rebels this past season. While the Rebels lost in five games, Fessenden posted a save percentage of .915 in the series, which included one shutout.
“David has been with us almost since the beginning. He had to endure a lot being the goalie on a 4-win team two years ago, but never wavered in his love of the Generals. He bought in 100% on Day 1 and shared the organizations vision of building towards the future. He is one of the main reasons for our dramatic improvement this past year. This commitment is a testament to all the hard work he has put in on and off the ice. He is a truly amazing young man,” Generals said GM Bryan Erikson. “We feel that with the work he has put in he will be ready to help the Chargers right away and we can’t wait to see him play at the next level.”
Fessenden is yet another great example of an NAPHL to NAHL to NCAA Division I ladder of development success story. Growing up in Colorado, he played two years in the NAPHL during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons for the Pikes Peak Miners(CSAHA) 16U team. In 2015-16, he would make his NAHL debut with the Bismarck Bobcats. Fessenden has appeared in 75 career NAHL games over the course of the last three seasons.
“David is a great kid. He has the gift of size but it is the work he has put in that has helped separate him. He dropped close to 50 pounds by working all summer in 2017 with our Strength and Conditioning Coach. He also comes up early and works with our goalie coach all summer and it has paid off. We are extremely proud of him and his commitment to Alabama Huntsville,” said Generals Head Coach Joe Lovell.
Fessenden joins recent Northeast Generals NCAA Division I commitment’s Kohei Sato (UNH), Matt Demelis (Northeastern) Brian Chambers (UMASS Lowell), Louis Boudon (Lake Superior State), Justin Jallen (Brown), Luke Perunovich (Providence) and Colin Bilek (West Point).
